Project Genesis, Louisiana, US

Working within our long-term collaboration with IKM Consulting Ltd., based in Grangemouth, Wellwood Leslie have been engaged by Mitsubishi Chemicals Ltd. to prepare designs for buildings and infrastructure in support of their proposed MMA production plant located within the Mississippi River petrochemicals corridor between New Orleans and Baton Rouge in Louisiana.

The project is part of a worldwide plan to develop several similar production plants making use of new production technology to allow more efficient production of methyl methacrylate products. The Louisiana plant is also intended as a headquarters facility for Mitsubishi Chemicals expansion into the USA.

Designs have been prepared for a number of buildings required to support plant operations including the plant control and administration building. Designs have been developed to take account of environmental conditions in the area including protection from hurricanes and tornadoes that are common in the area.

The plant facilities aspect of the project includes the design of the workshop and associated stores buildings and the contractors’ facilities building which provides toilet/locker/changing/messing facilities for plant operatives.
