Dundee High School Nursery

As part of the continuous development of its educational programme the High School of Dundee has expanded its estate to develop a pre-school nursery offering education for 3-5 year olds as a lead in to the preparatory school and the wider High School of Dundee family.

From the feasibility stage, commissioned in August 2012, Wellwood Leslie were able to guide the School through a process including site identification, optional appraisal, outline design, planning consent, detailed design, warrant and tender and finally contract administration to completion. Wellwood Leslie undertook a complete consultancy service including all sub-consultant services including cost control, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering through a single contract.

The new building is located at the School’s Mayfield Sports Complex, also designed by Wellwood Leslie, making full use of the extensive grounds for children’s play areas and allowing access to the extensive indoor sports facilities.

The design of the building maximises levels of daylight in classroom areas with large glazed screens facing out onto the playing fields well shaded by a sheltering canopy which allows external play in all weathers.
